The Morning Sports News: 'Rally Stuffed'
The Braves dropped the first game of a three game series with the Cubs last night as a ninth inning rally ended with a shallow pop fly to Left field off the bat of Johan Camargo. Hugh said "I like the way the team fought in this game, it ultimately came up short but you like to see this kind of fight from a team." The Panthers fired their GM Dave Gettleman with just eight days before training camp starts, Hugh said "I think the biggest thing about this is the Gregg Olson situation and making sure he doesn't hold out and is in camp when it starts. Obviously there was a disconnect between the front office, and ownership on philosophy concerning who to resign."

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Long Term Deal?'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, today is the deadline for teams to sign franchise tagged players to long term deals. Kirk Cousins has said he’s open to playing somewhere else next season on a long term deal, this is the second year Cousins will play under the franchise tag, Hugh said “They clearly don’t believe in him, and he thought he was going to get a deal after last season but he didn’t. And to be honest that’s not bad, he’s going to get right under $50 million the last two years.”
The Morning Sports News: 'Hot Start'
The Braves started the second half of the season the right way as they swept the wild card leading Arizona Diamondbacks behind good starting pitching and red hot bats. They got a combination of both yesterday as Jaime Garcia gave them seven strong innings, while Brandon Phillips went 3 for 3 with 3 doubles and 2 rbi. Hugh said "For them to sweep the wild-card leading Arizona Diamondbacks like this is great, they looked really good this weekend.This is the first time they have been .500 after the all-star break since 2014."

It was time for the NFL Hurry up, The most valuable sports franchise list was recently released by Forbes and the Dallas Cowboys topped that list at $4.2 billion dollars.
The Morning Sports News: 'One Hit Wonder?'
The Braves return to action from the All-Star break as they open a three game series with the Diamondbacks before hosting one with the Cubs next week. Hugh said "This is the time of the year where we will see if the Braves are buyers or sellers at the trade deadline, these next few weeks will be very big for them." One hit wonder? Arthur Blank talked at the Atlanta Sports Awards last night after receiving an award, Mr. Blank said the "Hugh said, a lot of teams would love to be in the exact spot that the Falcons are in right now, under his control they have had a better organization than before he bought the club."

The Morning Sports News: 'Don't Waste The Failure'
Day three of SEC Media days saw Nick Saban take the podium as he talked about the team losing the national championship game last year, Saban referred to it as failure including coming up with his own little motto "Don't waste the Failure". Hugh said "I think Alabama will be fine, they ran into a buzz saw in Clemson and I have no doubt they will be back next season. The 25th edition of the ESPY awards were last night as Peyton Manning hosted the event for the first time, Manning wasn't short on taking shots at some of his former peers as in his opening speech he took a nice shot at Warriors Forward Kevin Durant.

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Hall Of Fame Worthy'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Former Jacksonville and New England Running back went on twitter yesterday and made a case for himself to be in the Hall of Fame. Taylor sent out numerous tweets about how he should be in the HOF and is better than some running backs in there right now. Hugh said “I remember playing with him for one year in Jacksonville and thinking just how great of a player he was. The problem for Taylor is he played in the wrong town, if he had went anywhere else he would be in the Hall of Fame.”
The Morning Sports News: 'Wild Press Conference'
Last night was the 88th MLB All-Star game and it was a low scoring affair as the American League won 2-1 over the Ender Inciarte and the rest of the National League All-Stars. The difference in the 10 inning game was a Robinson Cano home-run which gave the American League All-Stars the lead, Cano was named MVP. The first of four press conferences for the Mayweather-McGregor fight took place at Staples center yesterday as the fighters sparred with verbal jabs at each during the press conference. Hugh said "To me the winner hands down yesterday was Connor McGregor's suit which had a message written on it. To me that was old school boxing, it reminded me of the way Ali use to rock the microphone."

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Back Loaded Contract'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Derek Carr recently talked about his contract and went as far to give himself credit for back loading his contract, in all actuality the contract is front loaded. Hugh said “A lot of his money is guaranteed so they try to pay it quickly. I think he was trying to justify the money he took, and that’s the way it is for Quarterbacks, they get paid top dollar.”
The Morning Sports News: 'Big, Bad Judge'
Last night was the All-Star game home run derby and Yankees rookie Aaron Judge did not disappoint the fans as he hit the second most in Derby history. Hugh said "I kinda missed Chris Berman doing the call, it's more of a nostalgia thing then actually missing him doing the call." Yesterday was the opening day of SEC Media Days as one of the things discussed by Commissioner Greg Sankey was extending the season to 14 weeks, Hugh said “These guys are still student athletes and I think they need to take this into consideration when they are thinking about adding more time and things for them to do.”

The Morning Sports News: 'Fake Rain Delay'
The Braves game started a little late last night in Washington after a 3 hour rain delay which had no real rain in it, the Braves waited out the delay and were able to take the first of a four game series against the Nationals 5-2. Freddie Freeman got two hits in the game including what was his 1,000 career hit. Hugh said "I give the Braves a ton of credit for being able to wait out the fake rain delay and go out there and get an important win."

Braves Fans didn't have to wait til after the game for fireworks last night as the Astros put up 5 runs in the first 3 innings last night on their way to a 16-4 victory over the Braves. Freddie Freeman made his return to the lineup and started at third base, he went 1 for 4 at the plate in his return. Hugh said "Houston is a really good team, and last night was a tough one for the Braves, but they have to put that one behind them." The Atlanta United got some bad news before their game yesterday as Alec Kann will miss the next six weeks due to a quad injury, but the United were able to overcome the loss of their goalie for a 4-2 win over the San Jose Earthquakes.

It was time for the NFL Hurry up, NFL.com recently released a video of former Rams coach talking with his coaches after he was fired by the team, Fisher was fired after a 42-14 loss to the Falcons. Hugh said “Being fired is a humbling experience, but this video is getting so many views because everyone likes a car crash, no one likes to see anyone get fired but they will still watch.”
The Morning Sports News: 'Series Streak Ended'
The Braves series win streak ended last night as the Padres shut out the Braves six to nothing last night in San Diego, Jaime Garcia had a rough night giving up six runs in only six innings of work. Hugh "The biggest take away from last night is Matt Adams leaving the game after fouling a ball off his foot, and you have Freeman set to come off the DL after the All-Star break and play third, so now that's all kinda up in the air." NBA Free Agency starts tonight at midnight, one of the big questions out there is what will happen with Gordon Hayward and Paul George? Meanwhile in Atlanta will the Hawks make a push to keep Paul Millsap and Tim Hardaway Jr.

The NFL Hurry Up: 'The Money Is Gone'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Clinton Portis lost millions after hiring a crooked financial adviser during his time in the NFL, Portis made $43 million during his playing time in the NFL. Portis has came out and said he wanted to kill the person, and even went as far as sitting outside of the manager’s building with a gun, but was calmed down by a friend and eventually left. Hugh said “Something similar happened to me, not near as much but my financial advisor took $800,000 as a loan and I still haven’t found that money, I looked for years and no one knew what happened to it.”

The Braves started their six game west coast road trip last night in San Diego as Sean Newcomb made his fourth start of his career, the rookie pitched six scoreless innings while striking out eight to earn his first career win. Hugh said "He's had four quality starts, got his first win of his career last night, and Colon will take the mound tonight and its evident he's pitching for his job." In the all SEC College World Series last night the Florida Gators won their first World Series in eleven appearances as they topped six-time former champion LSU 6-1 last night to sweep the three game series.

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Lost Before The Season'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, the Saints have lost a key part of their defense before the season has even started as Nick Fairley has been put on the reserve/non-football illness list as doctors have told him to put his career on hold due to a heart condition. Hugh said “I hate this for him first off thoughts and prayers to him and I hope he gets healthy. He has just signed a new deal and now it looks like he might not reap the benefits of it.”

The Atlanta Hawks introduced their rookies yesterday as John Collins, Tyler Dorsey and Alpha Kaba meet with the media for the first time along with GM Travis Schlenk. The team has also reportedly made a qualifying offer to Restricted Free Agent guard Tim Hardaway Jr. Robert Alford was on the NFL Network yesterday and told them that he thinks the anger the team has from the Super Bowl loss will propel the team forward this season which will allow them to avoid the Super Bowl hangover. Hugh said "If you believe, and that's the truth if you believe in that then there's no reason why it can't happen."

It was a successful road trip as the team went 7-3 on the 10 game stand. The Atlanta United to a home victory on Saturday night as Josef Martinez scored his seventh goal of the season helping the United climb to 6th place.

The Braves had an eight run fifth inning last night on the way to a 12-11 win over the Giants at Sun Trust Park last night as they took three of four from the Giants, they have now won seven of their last ten games. The NBA draft took place and our Hawks had the 19th pick in the first round and they used it on Power Forward John Collins who played his college basketball at the Wake Forest, the team used it's second pick in the draft to get John Dorsey a guard out of the University of Oregon. Jon said "He's still a raw project, but he took a step forward last year, he's not a stretch guy but with them losing so many front court guys he can slide in there."

It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Derek Carr looks like he will get paid, as the Raiders are set to make him the highest paid player in the league by paying him around $25 million a year. Jon said “This is how the NFL works, when a team finds a quarterback they are going to do everything they can to keep him around and that’s exactly what is happening here.”

The Braves got back into the win column yesterday as Matt Kemp hit a walk off 2 run homer to give the Bravos the 5-3 win in the eleventh inning, Sean Newcomb had another solid start as he pitched six innings of one run ball in his third career start. Chuckery said "We know they have a good offense, they hit three homers last night, and they never seem out of any game." The bigger story though is the one where Freddie Freeman has reportedly said he wants to move to third base when he returns from the DL, Freeman said he will do anything to win and the team has to keep Matt Adams bat in the lineup.

It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Warren Sapp is the latest former NFL player to speak on CTE and head trauma as the Hall of Fame DL said he would donate his brain to the cause because of memory loss he has suffered from football. Sapp said that he wanted to make sure he left the game better than when he played in it, and he feels like donating his brain will help achieve that.

The Braves winning streak hit the skids last night as the Giants capitalized on a big eight inning as they beat the Braves 6-3, Sean Newcomb will take the mound for his third career start tonight against the Giants and Jeff Samardzija. The Atlanta Hawks made a big move Tuesday night trading star center Dwight Howard and the 31st pick in the draft to the Charlotte Hornets for Miles Pumlee, Marco BMarco Belinelli and the 41st overall pick in the draft. Chuckery said "You traded Dwight for an expiring contract and a guy who makes $12.5 a year, that's nothing in the NBA these days."

It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Yesterday the supreme court ruled in favor of an Asian rock band that wanted to patent their band name something that was deemed offensive by some. The court said that they are allowed to trademark the name, and the first amendment protects them. Fricke said “This is a huge victory for Daniel Snyder and the Redskins, this is also big news for the Blackhawks, Indians and other teams with similar names.”

The Braves won their third straight last night as they won the first of four against the San Francisco Giants 9-0 last night behind seven innings of shutout ball from R.A. Dickey, it was Dickey's fifth win of the season. Jon said "I don't know what to do with Dickey at this point, do you ride this out for the rest of the season, or maybe just maybe someone will give you some value for him. The Cavaliers fresh off their third straight finals appearance under GM David Griffin, have not renewed his contract and will now start their search for a new GM, sources say the team is interested in former Pistons Guard Chauncey Billups.

The NFL Hurry Up: 'No Overtime?'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Let’s get rid of Overtime? Apparently that was proposed by former head of officiating Dean Blandino who said when they voted to shorten overtime he wanted to get rid of it completely in the regular season. Chuckery said “I feel like they gimmicking everything in the NFL these days just to act like they are trying to be aware of player safety.”

The Braves got back to back game winning hits from Brandon Phillips on Saturday and Sunday to take two out of three from the Marlins over the weekend. Chuckery said "I bet most people don't even realize that Brandon Phillips is hitting .306 and were almost at the end of June right now, I would take at least two more years of Phillips." The U.S. Open had a first time winner yet again as Brooks Koepka tied a record 16 under to win his first major and U.S. Open, it was a group of young players without majors at the top of the leader board as 9 of the top 12 players in the world didn't make the cut for the weekend.

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Cut By Voicemail?'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Jeremy Maclin was recently cut by the Kansas City Chiefs, and you’ll never believe how the veteran wide receiver was let go. Maclin told reporters he found out that he was cut via voicemail, Maclin went on to say he was told that the team had apparently been shopping him for months on the trading block. Hugh said “First off getting cut isn’t cool to begin with, and they apparently had been trying to trade him and probably got up against the clock, not saying it makes it better but I can understand it a little.”

The Falcons concluded mini-camp yesterday up at Flowery Branch, camp ended early due to Mohamad Sanu kicking a field goal against a member of the coaching staff. Hugh said "I talked w/ some of the coaches and I can't tell you everything but I know they are working hard on that DL to do some new things." The Braves start a 10 game home-stand tonight as they take on the Miami Marlins at Sun Trust park with Sean Newcomb making his second career start on the mound, first pitch is set for 7:35ET.

It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Myles Garrett went down in Browns mini-camp yesterday with an apparent foot injury, Hue Jackson said they hoped it wasn’t an serious injury. Hugh said “You hope it’s not bad, but you hear about rookies going down like Jacksonville’s Dante Fowler who went down in rookie camp.”
The Morning Sports News: 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad'
A late afternoon game ended the Braves brief road-trip in Washington against the Nationals as the bats stayed hot on the route to a 13-2 win in the rubber game between the two teams. Brandon Phillips lead the charge going 4-6 with 3 RBI in the winning effort, Julio Teheran gave up two runs on seven innings pitched. Hugh said "Julio pitched well yesterday, if he can get it together at home we might really have something here." The fight many people have been asking to get made for a while now is officially on as Floyd Mayweather will come out of retirement to fight MMA Champion Connor McGregor at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26th. Hugh said "No matter what happens Connor McGregor is getting paid, both these guys are going to make a ton of money. That being said I just don't think this fight will not be what most are expecting."

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Not Ready'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Andrew Luck’s shoulder continues to be a concern for the Colts as Quarterback Andrew Luck, who had offseason shoulder surgery, isn’t ready to throw yet and now hopes to be for training camp. Hugh said “You talk about a guy who has been snake bitten in his time, he hasn’t played a full year in a while. You have to start wondering if all these injuries aren’t going to take time off his career.”
The Morning Sports News: 'Roughed up'
The ball continued to jump off the bats last night but the Braves couldn't get enough as they lost 10-5 in the second game of a three game series with the Nationals. R.A. Dickey gave up eight runs in 5 innings Hugh said "R.A. Dickey got roughed up early, but they were able to recover and take the lead, but in the bottom of the sixth it all fell apart for him." Yesterday was the first day of Mini-camp for the Falcons, and Dontari Poe started his camp with making the targeted weight of 340 pounds, Hugh said "He just has to get to the season at his weight and then he can get a little more relaxed with it, but he still has to be careful."

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Dumping Salaries'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, the Jets continue their tear down as they have released Wide Receiver Eric Decker, the cut was a perceived salary dump as the team tried to trade him before the release. John said “The Jets are a mess, they are letting everyone go right now, it could be to the point where they might be looked at as the worst team in the league going into camp.”
The Morning Sports News: 'Champions Again'
The Braves broke out of their mini-slump last night against one of the best in the Majors as they got to Stephen Strasburg early and often on the way to an 11-10 victory against the division leading Nationals. Nick Markakis was the first to go deep, and he was joined by Matt Kemp, Matt Adams who had two, and then Tyler Flowers hit the game winning three run home run. The Golden State Warriors closed out the NBA Finals last night as they won game 5 129-120 behind another MVP performance from Kevin Durant who scored 39 points on the way to being named the Finals MVP. Hugh said "The sky is the limit for this team, I think it's safe to say they will be back here next year in the Finals, barring major injury I think they are that good."

The NFL Hurry Up: 'New Madden Mode'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Madden ’18 will be out in August and has a new mode in the game called “Longshot.” The mode , Hugh said “Every year in Madden they do something very different, so this is just the newest part of that, and this lets you build your own character and should be pretty interesting.”
The Morning Sports News: 'Retiring Falcons'
The Falcons will have a retirement ceremony for Roddy White and Michael Vick today, as both players will officially retire today. Hugh said "I think he will eventually get into the Falcons Ring of honor, it might take some time but I think he will get in." The Braves had a rough weekend as they lost three of four to the Mets, Jaime Garcia was on the mound yesterday and only gave up two runs but the Braves couldn't muster enough offense as they lost 2-1.

The Braves got a solid start from veteran pitcher R.A. Dickey last night as he went 7 innings allowing only one run while striking out 8 batters, the bats stayed hot as Tyler Flowers and Matt Kemp had a multi-hit game. John said "The Braves could have two all-stars this year, because I think Matt Kemp will be there and Tyler Flowers could have a chance he's hitting .354 for the season.

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Voided Contracts?'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, the NFLPA is seeking to void 160 rookie contracts due to illegal language in the actual contracts. Some of these in there is “automatic repayment” when players are fined, and even language where prospective free agents have to get permission from their current club before speaking with teams during the legal tampering period. Hugh said “I remember money being taken directly out of my paycheck from fines, so I’m thinking this could have been in there for a long time, what is the NFLPA doing, how are they allowing these things to go on?”
The Morning Sports News: 'Not Enough'
The Braves avoided a sweep last night against the Phillies as Dansby Swanson and Nick Markakis had big nights with their bats to go along with a 7 scoreless innings from Mike Foltynewicz. Lost in those performances was the fact that Matt Adams continues to stay hot as he hit his 7th home-run of the season, this one coming in the 3-run fashion. The NBA Finals continued last night as the series moved to game 3 in Cleveland, LeBron James scored 39 and Kyrie Irving dropped 38 points but in the end it wasn't enough as Golden State took a commanding three games to zero lead in the best of seven after Kevin Durant hit the go ahead three with forty five seconds to go. Hugh said "You have to give the Warriors credit, they added a piece and have continued to play as a team."

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Motivated In Oakland'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Marshawn Lynch talked yesterday at the Raiders OTA’s and told the media his motivating factor for coming out of retirement was knowing that the team was leaving Oakland in a few season which is his hometown. Hugh said “Him going back home, you can tell it means a lot to him, for him to be able to represent his hometown has to be special for him.”

The Braves lost their second game in a row last night to the Phillies 3-1, as Jaime Garcia gave up 3 runs on 7 2/3 innings in a solid performance. John said "They wasted another solid performance by Garcia where he got no run support." The Falcons had another practice during OTA's yesterday and one of the big stories that came out of it was Julio Jones and Desmond Trufant being back on the field around the team.

It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Monday Night Football is revamping their show open and bringing back a familiar face as they will bring back Hank Williams Jr. and the theme song which was on for years “All My Rowdy Friends Are Back On Monday Night Football”. Hugh said “I think that he is singing the song again is cool, strictly for him doing the song I’m a fan of that.”
The Morning Sports News: 'Bad Bartolo'
The Braves opened their series with the Phillies last night at Sun Trust park as Bartolo Colon took the mound and it was another rough outing for the veteran pitcher as he gave up 8 earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. Hugh said "They still think he has it but they think it's more mental than anything, so they just want him to sit down and get things right in-between his ears." Game four of the Stanley Cup Finals was last night as the Predators were looking to even the series up at 2 games, and they got a game stealing performance from goalie Pekka Rinne as he made 23 saves on the way to a 4-1 win. The series will resume in Pittsburgh on Thursday night as the puck will drop in game 5 at 8pm ET.

It was time for the NFL Hurry up, the Jets might have an issue on their hands as there is video that appears to be teammates Darren Lee and Leonard Williams at a music festival. In the video a man who appears to be Williams removing a man who appears to be Lee from a woman he was having an altercation with. Hugh said “I think it’s very important with stories like this that we get the story straight, because it’s a serious matter.”

The Braves bats came alive yesterday as Ender Inciarte led the way with a 5-5 performance with 5 RBI's and Matt Adams had his third home run of the series as the team took the rubber game of the series against the Reds 13-8. John said "People are asking how you got a guy like Matt Adams if he plays this well, and it's because first base around the league is loaded at that position, he wasn't even a starter in St. Louis." Last night the NBA Finals resumed as the Cavs-Warriors took the court for Game 2, and once again dropped the hammer on Cleveland in the second half on route to a 132-113 win. Kevin Durant once again led the Warriors in scoring with 33, while LeBron led Cleveland with a 29 and his 8th NBA Finals triple double.

It was time for the NFL Hurry up, New Raider Marshawn Lynch has some incentives in his contract based on performance’s. Hugh said “most of these he is going to hit, they are here to help in cap space and this gives him the opportunity to make more money and it’ won’t hurt the team with this year’s cap.”

The NBA Finals started last night and Kevin Durant was ready as the newest Warrior dropped 38-8-8 on LeBron James and the Cavs as they took a 1-0 series lead. Hugh said "The thing that I noticed is LeBron had to earn every single point he got last night, the Warriors defense was on point last night."

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Pleasant Surprise'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Cleveland Browns Coach Hue Jackson told the media yesterday that a pleasant surprise for the team has been Brock Osweiler’s performance in OTA’s thus far. Jackson told reporters "I expected everything you guys wrote" and went on to say that "He’s not any of that that we’ve seen." Hugh said “What I think Coach Jackson is trying to do is sell Osweiler to his fan base, he’s just trying to let everyone know he’s not a bad dude because he’s going to be the starter for this team next season.”

The Braves got a solid perfomance from starter Jaime Garcia but fell short last night in the last of a 3 game series with the Angels as they lost 2-1. Hugh said "Last night the pitching was good, but you couldn't manufacture any runs." Tonight is the night, finally after a 9 day lay off the NBA Finals tips off at Oracle arena in Oakland as Lebron James and the Cavs take on Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors.Hugh said "I think the Cavs are going to get it, I know the Warriors have the better overall roster but when you have the best player in the world on your team that's definitely the wildcard. So get your nap in today, it's a late start but it's going to be good, and people are going to be out and a bout tonight watching that game so get to your local watering hole.

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Not Held Accountable?'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, the recent article written on the Seattle locker room claiming defensive players on the team don’t feel like Russell Wilson is held up to the same standards. Wide receiver Doug Baldwin recently spoke out on it, Baldwin says he feels Carroll does do a good job handling different players differently. Hugh said “I believe Baldwin, he’s in the locker room, but Quarterbacks are treated differently that’s a fact.”

The Braves continued their West Coast road trip and the third inning was once again a big inning between the Braves and Angels, this time it went the Angels way as they put 9 runs on the board in the 3rd inning. Hugh said "That was a bad inning for them, with the errors, Matt Adams couldn't get the ball out of his glove, so it was just a really bad inning." The suspensions have been announced following the Giants-Nationals brawl as Giants pitcher Hunter Strickland will face a six game suspension while Nationals Bryce Harper will face a four game suspension.

The NFL Hurry Up: 'Competition in Tampa'
It was time for the NFL Hurry up, Roberto Aguayo was drafted by Tampa Bay in the second round of last years NFL draft as Tampa gave up picks to get the Kicker out of Florida State. After Aguayo’s struggles last year Tampa brought in veteran Nick Folk and have said it’s an open competition. Hugh said “If he doesn’t beat out Nick Folk, that’s a real problem because you traded up to draft this guy in the second round, so that’s going to be a wasted pick if it doesn’t work out.”
